On 8 March 2002 Trevor Chappell's contract as coach was terminated with immediate effect.Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohsin Kamal formally began his term as coach on 1 May and arrived in Dhaka a few days later to prepare for this second tour of Sri Lanka.
Abu Sharif Mahmood Faruque, a former Bangladesh player, was appointed team manager up until the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. He said "This time the team is in good condition from a fitness point of view, which will help the players perform better."
Batsman Minhajul Abedin Nannu from Chittagong was invited to the preliminary training squad by virtue of scoring more than 1,000 runs in the National League. There was dismay at the subsequent exclusion of the hero of Bangladesh's World Cup run in 1999.
In terms of this tour's contribution to the development of the Bangladeshi national side, the level of experience in the team was always inadequate. Experienced players like Minhazul Abedin could have been invaluable had they been chosen to guide the promising youngsters.
