Tour of Zimbabwe 2003-04                  Captain : Habibul Bashar

Bangladesh’s eighth Test tour.

   (January - March 2004

Second Test-playing tour of Zimbabwe by Bangladesh

   (previous tour 2000-01)

In January Dav Whatmore changed the practice of naming the captain first, and then the team. Now, in the Australian practice, the team would be chosen and the skipper picked from its ranks.

Khaled Mahmud was dropped and announced his retirement from international cricket, which he was later persuaded to revoke.

Under a new captain, Habibul Bashar, the tour party spent a fortnight in Namibia preparing for the tour with four warm-up matches.

In Zimbabwe there was defeat again in the Test series but Bangladesh won their fourth official ODI, ending a run of 47 one-day defeats

Mohammad Rafique created such a commotion in reaction to his captain’s comments about the promise shown by a rival spin bowling teammate, that the team management sent him home from Harare next day
