| Bangladesh’s tenth Test tour. (May - July 2005) First Test-playing tour of England by Bangladesh (no previous Test tour) | Before the England tour the "Tigers" beat India in the second of a three-match ODI series and later beat Zimbabwe in both the Test and ODI series played at home. On the eve of the tour on 20 April the Bangladesh Cricket Board announced that Dav Whatmore had agreed to extend his contract by a further two years. Paul Plose, born in New Zealand, became the new physiotherapist, taking over from Robbie Hunt. Latif Khan returned as Manager after being absent from the previous tour for health reasons. Bangladesh were twice beaten by an innings in their two Tests against England. Cricket writers including Richie Benaud were saying that Bangladesh was not good enough to compete at the highest level. But amid the heavy defeats Bangladesh pulled off a huge cricket upset with a five-wicket victory over world champions Australia at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens. Though they failed to qualify for the one-day Triangular Series final, this turned the 2005 tour into a relative success. Putting aside the heavy defeats against second-string counties, the performances of Mohammad Ashraful, with a hundred in the shock win, and all-rounder Aftab Ahmed were signs for the future, although at the crease both remained impetuous and inconsistent, while the attack was over dependent on fit-again Mashrafe Mortaza. | All Bangladesh tours Previous tour to West Indies 2004 Next tour Sri Lanka 2005-06 Next tour of England 2010 | |
