Reinforcements

Shoaib Akhtarwas not picked in the original 17-man squad, but an ankle injury to Umar Gul led to  his recall for the 2nd Test. After picking up four for 36 from 11 overs, he pulled a hamstring and was out of the tour.

He and Gul both went home so Shabbir Ahmed was called up but he suffered a knee injury in preparation and went only in time for the one-day series. Then he suffered a groin injury and Azhar Mahmood came in for him

Abdul Razzaq, their allrounder, went out of the entire Test series with a calf injury. Shoaib Malik was sidelined with an ankle injury and Mohammad Yousuf missed the first Test, to be with his wife for the birth of their child after complications with the pregnancy.
