Test Cricket Tours - West Indies to Pakistan 1990-91

Tour of  Pakistan 1990-91           Captain: Desmond Haynes

34th West Indies Test tour

Fifth Test-playing tour of Pakistan by West Indies

(November - December 1990)

Desmond Haynes captained the touring side while Viv Richards recuperated from an operation.

Before the Test series began Pakistan won 3-0, the one-day international series giving them a clean sweep and a series victory against West Indies for the first time. They then beat West Indies in the first Test on a pitch of uneven bounce and because Pakistan had two fast bowlers in Waqar and Wasim to match West Indies’ formidable quartet of Bishop, Ambrose, Walsh and Marshall, the matches were relatively even.

Play was often disrupted by heavy dew and a lack of late afternoon light. West Indies won a low-scoring encounter at Faisalabad and the third match was left drawn as the Pakistan batsmen denied West Indies a breakthrough. Walsh, armed with a stump, had to be restrained from approaching a spectator who threw an orange at him at the end of the third Test.
