West Indies arrived from a Benson & Hedges
one-day series in Australia. Steve Camacho as manager ensured that the side
behaved with goodwill overcoming memories of the reviled 1980 team.

Garner had a successful tour with 20 relatively cheap wickets on the tour
but Michael Holding’s career came to an end after straining his back and
having to return home early.

Unavailable: At first Michael Holding was going to retire before the
West Indies tour of Australia and New Zealand but was persuaded to make the
trip by being excused the tour of Pakistan.
The team for the one-day tournaments in Australia was chosen on 5
December 1986.Patterson and Butts
from the side in Pakistan
were not required for the Australia
one-dayers, as Holding and Garner were recalled to the 15-man squad
