Unavailable : D.L.Houghton (retired from playing - niggling injuries persuaded him that he would not be fit to tour Sri Lanka, and so he retired);   Eddo Brandes (injured).

Tour Party Announced :  15 December 1997.

Not selected:   Stuart Carlisle,  Craig Evans.

Dirk Viljoen joined the group of players who had been in Sri Lanka, in place of Bryan Strang.

None.  It was disclosed on 17 February that Matambanadzo's shoulder injury would keep the fast bowler out for the rest of the tour but that he would remain with the team for his personal cricketing development.  Henry Olonga appeared in only one side match but was 12th man in other games.

   Alastair Campbell scored 196 in the side match against Canterbury

   In the second Test Andy Flower scored 65 and 83.

   Paul Strang scored 67 not out from 72 balls at Auckland

   Opener Grant Flower scored his maiden one-day hundred during the ODI series

   Murray Goodwin also scored his maiden one-day hundred in the shorter game.
