Test Cricket Tours - Bangladesh to England 2010

Tour of England 2010                  Captain : Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh’s 17th Test tour.

   (May -  July 2010)

Second Test-playing tour of England by Bangladesh

   (previous tour 2005)

As in 2005 Bangladesh played two Test matches at the beginning of the English season and had to put up with some chilly and damp weather. The Bangladeshis had another very young side but there was more experience than on some previous tours.

At Lord’s Shahadat persisted well and gained five wickets but Trott scored a double century against some ordinary bowling. Bangladesh were made to follow on but fought really well in their second innings, Tamim Iqbal leading the way with a fine century scored at better than a run a ball.

The star batsmen Shakib and Mushfiqur, the wicket-keeper, failed to score runs in the Test matches. In the second Test at Old Trafford Tamim Iqbal stood alone but the Bangladesh innings collapsed twice, losing ten wickets for 90 in the first innings and then eight wickets for 97 in the second.

Bangladesh achieved its first-ever victory over England in the one-day international at Bristol, but later suffered defeats against Ireland and the Netherlands. Coach Jamie Siddons blamed the hectic travelling and a lack of adequate preparation time for Bangladesh underperforming against the lesser teams.

Fast bowlers Robiul Islam, Shahadat Hossain, Mahbubul Alam and opening batsman Junaid Siddique travelled to England early.

Other members of the Test squad flew in from Barbados after their World Twenty20 matches and arrived in England on approx  7 May 2010. Mortaza, Syed Rasel, Aftab Ahmed and Suhrawadi Shuvo who were participating in that tournament, returned home

One-day replacement Mohammad Ashraful flew to London on 9 July and played the next day.

On 20 May the tour management requested a batsman be sent when Shakib developed chicken pox and Tamim had a wrist injury; he left Dhaka on 17 May but Shamsur did not play a match

Injury ruled Raqibul Hasan (toe) and Mushfiqur Rahim (struck in the face by a ball) out of the one-day matches against England in July, so Naeem Islam and Mohammad Ashraful came in to the squad.  Saghir Hossain was chosen but did not replace Mushfiqur as wicket-keeper because of visa problems.

Raqibul Hasan had to pull out of the tour after fracturing a toe in the first ODI at Trent Bridge.
