| Would have been 49th Sri Lankan Test tour (October - November 2013)
Would have been fourth Test-playing tour of West Indies and fourth of Zimbabwe by Sri Lanka
| A West Indies tour of Zimbabwe programmed for April 2013 had already been cancelled.
Sri Lanka Cricket had confirmed its visit to Zimbabwe on 23 August 2013. There would be two Test matches, three ODIs and two T20 matches. However, within a week Zimbabwe Cricket asked for a postponement of the tour owing to some “challenging issues” the Board was facing. After hosting tours by India and Pakistan ZC’s finances were in poor shape. With Sri Lanka attracting little interest from sponsors, the severe financial problems ($18 million of debt, according to ESPNcricinfo) would only worsen. Zimbabwe would reschedule the Sri Lanka tour on a mutually agreed future date but SLC was anxious to arrange some cricket in its place, having already postponed Tests against South Africa at home. The last Test series they had played was against Bangladesh in March 2013. SLC approached other cricket boards about the possibility of organising a tour but New Zealand, Australia and England were all otherwise committed and turned it down. The Sri Lankans would have to wait until the end of the year for the series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates. | Other Sri Lankan Tours Previous tour Australia 2012-13 Next tour v Pakistan in UAE 2013-14 Next Zimbabwe tour not yet scheduled | |
