Tenth Test-playing tour of West Indies by India

India appointed a new coach, Duncan Fletcher,

 

Suresh Raina and Amit Mishra were found to have breached the code which relates to showing dissent at an umpire's decision.

Umpire Daryl Harper withdrew from standing in the final Test after receiving scathing criticism during the first Test.

Selectors

 

The National Selection Panel -   K Srikkanth (chairman), N D Hirwani,  C R Venkatraman,  M B Amarnath,  Surendra Bhave  - met in Chennai on 13 May to pick the one-day squad and on 27 May to pick the Test squad.  New coach Duncan Fletcher, interim coach Eric Simons and captain M S Dhoni attended in a non-voting capacity.

One-day squad announced : 13 May 2011

Gautam Gambhir (captain), Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel (wk), Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh, S Badrinath, Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, R Ashwin, Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel, Vinay Kumar, Yusuf Pathan, Amit Mishra, Wriddhiman Saha.  Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh then withdrew, and were replaced by Dhawan and Tiwary.

 

Unavailable :  Yuvraj Singh (chest infection),  Gautam Gambhir (shoulder injury),  Virender Sehwag (shoulder), Cheteshwar Pujara (knee injury).

Not considered :  Sachin Tendulkar (rested - he also missed the Caribbean tour in 2005-06)

Tour Party Announced: 27 May 2011

Omitted :  Wriddhiman Saha, Jaidev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav, who were in the touring party to South Africa.

Withdrawn from Test squad:  Zaheer Khan (right ankle), Sreesanth (right elbow).

Their replacements were Abhimanyu Mithun and Praveen Kumar (already in West Indies as part of the one-day squad)

Travel

 

Led by Suresh Raina, the Indian cricketers team flew out of Chattrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai, for Heathrow Airport, London, in the early hours of Wednesday 1 June.  They caught a connecting trans-Atlantic flight to Bridgetown, Barbados, and landed at Piarco International Airport at 20:30 local time after a long flight (flying for close to 22 hours with about eight hours in transit) They were received by officials of the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and sponsors Digicel.

After the one-day series the Test squad was expected to leave for the West Indies on Sunday, June 12, but the departure was delayed.  Dhoni along with V V S Laxman, Pragyan Ohja, Murali Vijay, Abhinav Mukund and Rahul Dravid arrived in Kingston on 16 June.

Abhimanyu Mithun did not arrive until 20 June owing to delays while his visa was arranged.

The team went from Dominica to Antigua and direct to London on 11 July. Players who were in the Test touring side for England joined up with other team members on 12 July, while Vijay, Kohli, Mithun, Badrinath, Ohja and Patel took a connecting flight to India.
