Test Cricket Tours - South Africa to Zimbabwe 2001-02

Tour of Zimbabwe 2001-02         Captain: Shaun Pollock

30th official test tour

Third Test-playing tour of Zimbabwe by South Africa

     (September 2001)

Despite fears for the safety of the South African team owing to unrest in Zimbabwe, the tour went ahead, being approved on 14 August.  As a two-Test series, it qualified for the ICC Test Championship, whereas on the two previous tours of Zimbabwe a single Test match was played.

The formidable South African batting line-up overwhelmed the Zimbabwe bowling: the first innings at Harare reached 600 for 3 declared, with Kirsten scoring a double century; while at Bulawayo the team score was 519-8 declared.  Kallis, although slow, scored 388 runs without being dismissed and batted for 1028 minutes. The bowling attack was not at its best  but dealt with the Zimbabweans in the end, except for Flower who scored even more than Kallis.
