Test Cricket Tours - South Africa to West Indies 2009-10

Tour of West Indies 2009-10          Captain: Graeme Smith

47th official Test tour

Fourth Test-playing tour of West Indies by South Africa

 (April - June 2010)

South Africa failed to get beyond the semi-finals round of the ICC World T20 twenty-over competition, and had to wait a week before their tour resumed.

The four matches scheduled for Queens Park Oval, Port of Spain, were re-allocated to the Sir Viv Richards Stadium owing to elections being called in Trinidad.  Sabina Park was due to host the 5th one-day international and the First Test but these were shifted to Port of Spain because of civil disturbances in Kingston.

The South Africans sealed a 2-0 victory in the three-match Test series and retained the Viv Richards Trophy.

Dale Steyn was fined his match fee after the third Test for spitting out his chewing gum at Sulieman Benn who made a comment when he was dismissed.

Five members of the Proteas' ICC World Twenty20 squad flew directly to the West Indies from the IPL in India. Vice-captain Jacques Kallis and fast bowler Dale Steyn flew in after the third place play-off and Albie Morkel and JP Duminy and Ryan McLaren came after Sunday’s final.

The remainder of the Proteas squad had left from OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg, on Saturday evening 24 April. They reverted to their itinerary of flying to the Caribbean via London, following the re-opening of European air space after volcanic ash clouds closed them.

At the end of the T20 championships Alviro Petersen, Hashim Amla, Ryan McLaren, Lonwabo Tsotsobe arrived on 16 May to join the World T20  squad.

David Miller (Dolphins), called up as a replacement for Wayne Parnell (groin injury), and arrived in the Caribbean on approx 15 May.

Paul Harris and Ashwell Prince came in for the Test series.
