readmission in 1992 there was no Test at Kingsmead (Durban). After South Africa lost the last four
Tests played at the ground, its traditional Boxing Day Test was replaced with
a Twenty20 international.

Gillespie was named on 12 December as a replacement for Adam Milne
(achilles injury) in the Twenty20 squad.Next day New Zealand Cricket announced that Michael Bates would replace Gillespie who had suffered a side
strain; Bates joined the T20 squad next day.
M J McClenaghan
Mitchell McClenaghan was added to the Test
squad on 24 December in place of Tim Southee. Southee sustained a thumb
injury while fielding during a Plunket Shield match and withdrew from the
Test squad on 20 December.
Peter Fulton stood down from the Test
squad on 28 December because of a tendon injury to his right knee.
