Matthew Sinclair was playing in the East
Anglian League and was brought into the squad on 31 May as cover for Craig
McMillan, who broke a finger on his left hand.
Because Shane Bond (sore back),
Vettori (torn hamstring), Oram (side strain), Papps (broken finger) and
Tuffey (knee) were all injured, James
Franklin, currently playing club cricket in Lancashire, was added on 6
June.
The day after Shane Bond flew home for treatment on
his back injury, Ian Butler,
playing for Kent on a short-term contract, took Bond’s place in the one-day
squad. Kyle Mills returned home
with a side strain in mid-June, which meant Franklin kept a place in the side. Andre Adams joined the one-day group
as cover.
Gareth Hopkins, the Otago wicketkeeper, joined the team
to play against Leicestershire, and then provided wicketkeeping cover for Brendon McCullumwhen he flew home for the birth of his first
child.
Daniel Vettori pulled a hamstring in the second Test and there
was not time to call up a spin bowling replacement for the two remaining
Tests, though Vettori recovered to play in the NatWest ODI series.
