Third Test-playing tour of Bangladesh by Zimbabwe

  (previous tour  2004-05)

 

  

 

Zimbabwe’s first series of three Test matches since 2001-02. Bangladesh made a clean sweep both of the Test series (3-0) and the one-day internationals (5-0). The Zimbabwe batsmen were unable to handle the home side’s left-arm spinners, Shakib and Taijul.

It was expected that Shingi Masakadza would go home after the ODI’s but this was changed and Malcolm Waller and Natsai M’shangwe returned instead. Wellington Masakadza and Brian Chari were only ever required for the Test series.

Departure was from Harare International Airport on the evening of 16 October 2014. The 24-person group arrived at Hajrat Shah Jalal International Airport, Dhaka landing at 5:20pm the next day, and then went to their tour headquarters, the Pan Pacific Sonargaon.

The one-day players (Neville Madziva, Timycen Maruma, Solomon Mire, Peter Moor) arrived on 18 November.

Highlights

 

  Panyangara took 5-59 in the first Test

  Elton Chigumbura took 4-24 as Bangladesh collapsed to 62-6 chasing a winning target of 101

  Hamilton Masakadza scored 158 in the second Test at Khulna. It was his fourth Test hundred.

  Regis Chakabva (101 - his maiden Test hundred) shared in a partnership of 147 with Masakadza

   Sikander Raza (82 and 65) and Regis Chakabva (65 and 89*) scored strongly in both innings at Chittagong.   Chakabva was the only one to resist for long, as Zimbabwe faced defeat, making 89* off 181 balls

Postscript

 

 

At the end of the tour Stephen Mangongo was relieved of his position as Zimbabwe coach and Dav Watmore took his place in time for the 2015 World Cup.
