Prasanna Jayawardene fractured
his thumb batting in the second Test at the MCG. Then Kumar Sangakkara also
broke his left hand while batting.
The two above players were
called up before the third Test because Kumar
Sangakkara (broken hand) and Chanaka
Welegedera (torn hamstring) were ruled out of the remainder of the tour
and returned home early. Lahiru Thirimanne,
one of the stand-by players, arrived on 1 January whereas Suranga Lakmal was delayed obtaining
visa clearance

Mahela Jayawardena stepped down
from the captaincy at the end of the Australian tour, the fifth ODI in Hobart being his final
match in charge.

Lanka Cricket suspended Charith
Senanayake from the post of manager on 13 February 2013 with immediate effect,
pending an inquiry into 3 charges against him. A week later Michael De Zoysa was appointed
manager for the following year.
In September 2013 Graham Ford
let it be known that he would be standing down as Sri Lanka’s Head Coach after his
contract expired in January 2014.
Also on 20 February 2013Chaminda Vaas was appointed bowling coach
and Marvan Atapattu promoted to assistant coach.
