Test Cricket Tours - Australia to UAE to play Pakistan 2014-15

Tour of UAE to play v Pakistan  2014-15           Captain: Michael Clarke

Australia’s 93rd Test tour

(October - November 2014)

14th Test-playing tour to meet Pakistan by Australia

(previous tour to play Pakistan:

               2010 in England)

Australia had not toured Pakistan since 1998. The two previous Test series abroad against Pakistan were on neutral territory, the last in 2010 when the teams met in England in the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ series, which was drawn one-all.

As part of their preparations, a pitch was designed in Brisbane to imitate the spinning conditions expected and Muralitharan was hired as a spin bowling consultant to guide both the bowlers and batsmen.

While this may have helped achieve four consecutive victories in the limited-overs section of the tour, Australia was heavily beaten in the first Test match by two spinners new to Test cricket though having long experience in Pakistan’s domestic cricket. The second Test turned out even worse, for Australia were completely outplayed in every department and set a target of 603! So Pakistan put right the humiliation suffered twelve years before when Australia bowled them out for 59 and 53 in Sharjah, by consigning them now to a 356-run defeat.
