Alastair Cook and James Anderson were flown to India from England’s A tour, arriving in Nagpur on 26 February as cover for Michael Vaughan and Simon Jones who eventually left the tour, both because of knee injuries. Andrew Flintoff took over from Vaughan as captain

After Marcus Trescothick had gone home Owais Shah was called into the squad as cover on 26 February because Collingwood and Pietersen were suffering from back strains

Gareth Batty, Sajid Mahmood, Owais Shah and Vikram Solanki were added to the one-day side because Trescothick, Vaughan, Simon Jones and Ashley Giles from the original squad of sixteen were now not available

Andrew Flintoff was rested  and Andrew Strauss led the side in the last two ODIs.
