The tour followed
immediately after the Reliance World Cup in which England reached the final.
The most significant
moment of the tour came in the Faisalabad Test with the on-field row between England
captain Mike Gatting and umpire Shakoor Rana, who accused him of
cheating. It came at the end of a
day's play in which there had been some friction between them. Next day the
match could not proceed until Gatting made an apology.
Peter
Lush entered into a three-year contract with the the TCCB as tour manager,
putting him in charge of all England's overseas tours until 1990, starting
with the Reliance World Cup before this tour.
