Test Cricket Tours - England to Pakistan 1987-88

Tour of  Pakistan 1987-88                      Captain :  Mike Gatting

England’s sixty-eighth Test tour

(November - December 1987)

Sixth Test playing tour of Pakistan

  (previous tour 1983-84)

The tour followed immediately after the Reliance World Cup in which England reached the final.

The most significant moment of the tour came in the Faisalabad Test with the on-field row between England captain Mike Gatting and umpire Shakoor Rana, who accused him of cheating.  It came at the end of a day's play in which there had been some friction between them. Next day the match could not proceed until Gatting made an apology.

England planned to avoid risk of tropical stomach diseases by flying in tinned food and a microwave oven from home - but the consignment went astray and was delayed by several days.
